Red Hat Enterprise Licensing Agreement
(Home Use Program)
The Home Use Program portion of the Red Hat Enterprise Licensing Agreement is being offered as a self-service licensing program to UF faculty, staff, and students. Through this licensing program, faculty, staff, and students can obtain the current version of the Red Hat operating system and receive updates for their operating systems through the university's Red Hat Satellite Service.
UF department that want to utilize Red Hat Enterprise Services should refer to the Red Hat Satellite Services web site for relevant information for support.
Benefits
The University of Florida has established an Enterprise agreement with Red Hat® Inc. offering unlimited licensed/supported usage of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform and Red Hat Workstation/Desktop variants at the University of Florida. In addition, the University of Florida has deployed a centralized Red Hat Satellite Service to provide management, support, and updates for registered computers. Faculty, staff, and students participating in the home use agreement can:
- Obtain for free the current version of the Red Hat operating system
- Register to receive updates and security patches through UF's Red Hat Satellite Services
- Request tech support assistance from Red Hat through a request placed with the UF Computing Help Desk
Obtaining the Software
The Red Hat software available through this web site is free to faculty, staff, and students of the University of Florida. Use the Downloads, Instructions & Documentation tab to obtain the software.
Getting Automatic System Updates
Registration is required to take advantage of UF's Red Hat Satellite Service. After completing the online registration process, access to UF's Red Hat Satellite Service and the security, patch, and system management updates should be available within two business days.
